Using Your Points Close to KC: Tulsa, OK
Tulsa may not be on your radar, but it can make for an easy get-away from KC with just around a 4 hour drive! My husband and I took a long-weekend trip here last summer over our anniversary. We wanted someplace easy to get to, but someplace we had never been. We chose Tulsa and it was great!
Last summer, we stayed at an Airbnb, but this was booked before we started traveling with points and miles.
Where to stay:
If we were to go now, we would definitely stay at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa. We have friends that stayed here recently for a concert and they loved it!
I’ve seen this hotel listed as one of those “hidden gems,” because you got a lot of value for very little points! This is a nicer hotel in downtown Tulsa, yet it is listed as a Hyatt Category 1. You can get a night from 3,500-6,500 points depending on if it is an off-peak or peak night. There are even rooms for 7,000 points that grant you Club Access which means FREE food! Finally, this hotel has a rooftop indoor/outdoor pool, along with a fitness center. I’m seeing average prices are around $150 a night, so even paying cash isn’t an awful idea if you didn’t have points.
What to do:
Some fun things to do in Tulsa include: The Tulsa Arts District, Woody Guthrie Center, Gilcrease Museum, Route 66 stops, Tulsa Zoo, Casinos, Escape Rooms, and one of the coolest places we visited was the “Gathering Place.” This is an amazing outdoor space with so much to do. It has, what seemed like, all types of endless parks put together in one place. There are gardens and ponds where you can kayak or even take a pedal boat ride. It really is a fantastic place.
Tulsa also has some great food- from hole in the wall breakfast joints to fancy restaurants for true “foodies.” There is so much to do for couples, families, or even for a girl’s trip!
One final thought, if you are a “Pioneer Woman” fan, you can take a detour on the way to Tulsa. It really only adds an extra hour or so of driving to your trip if you want to visit the Pioneer Woman Mercantile and have some fabulous food and do a little shopping. You could even plan to stay in Pawhuska for the night if you wanted to spend more time there.
