We checked another new state off of our list and headed east to South Carolina. We traveled for a long weekend to Isle of Palms and stayed at the beautiful Wild Dunes Resort.
This is “Destination by Hyatt” property right on the beach! This property is perfect for a coastal family get-away and is honestly a great point redemption. It has such a cute “boardwalk” feel and is definitely one to put on your list!
Flights: We traveled on Southwest and this time used two companion passes. My mom joined us for the trip, so my daughter was her companion and my husband was my companion. We spent around 36K points roundtrip for each of the points tickets and the other two companion tickets were only $11.20 round trip (for taxes and fees.) We flew from KC->Charleston. The only drawback is that there is not a direct flight from KC, so we did have a layover in Nashville on the way, and Chicago on the way home.
Wild Dunes Resort Stay: Each of our rooms were only 57K for 3 nights when I booked before the Hyatt devaluation. I just looked, and rooms are still running either 15, 20, or 25K a night for summer stays. This can be a great beach points stay that won’t drain all of your points! It’s such a steal honestly! So for all of you points travelers thinking about next summer- be sure to check out this property.
Some of our favorite things about this stay included: direct access to the beach, several pool options, a good variety of restaurants and food right on property (you literally don’t have to leave!), shops for browsing, a sweet shop with yummy ice cream, and several activities for families.
The only thing we noticed is that many of the “activities” on property did have a fee, where sometimes they are included at other Hyatt properties. For example, we played Bingo on the first night we were here and it was $5 per person. This wasn’t a huge expense, but still something to keep in mind.
It worked out in our favor though, because my family won twice and got two prizes! One was a s’mores kit to use at one of the huge fire pits. There is also a Target and Walmart on the way, so if you had a car, you could definitely stop to grab a few snacks, drinks, or s’mores supplies on your way to the resort!
Beach chairs/umbrellas are also an extra fee if you choose to reserve those. But, the sand castle building contest was free, so you just have to choose what you want to spend money on!
But goodness, for such a low points redemption right on the beach, this is a great find and I seriously don’t understand how it’s not talked about more in the points and miles world!
This resort is perfect for families, but would also be such a good option for a “girls” trip!
Other amenities included a spa as well as tennis and racquet ball courts. You do get a free hour of usages at the courts with your stay!
Transportation: We chose to rent a car because we got a decent deal. I finished up part of a travel credit I had in one of the bank portals and used cash for the rest. Did we need a car though, definitely not! If you are coming for a longer stay, you might want one to head off property or grab some snacks as I mentioned above. But, if you are just making a long weekend out of it, you could easily just Uber/Lyft from the airport to the resort.
